Creator education: the full numbers

Niche map for Hafu's new channel · 2026-10-27

TL;DR

  • 17k creator-niche videos from 10k channels, 50k comments, and the YouTube channels of 48k commenters were checked.
  • Where established creators comment (first 100 commenters per video, share running a 10k+ channel; niche 5.3%): packaging 13.3%, strategy breakdowns 8.8%, creator stories 8.6%, creator-economy 8.0%. Fewest, outside the lanes you ruled out (faceless/MMO 2.1% is lowest overall): AI tools for creators 2.4%, Content marketing for businesses 2.5%, AI debate & experiments 2.5%, Storytelling & scripting 3.0%.
  • A handful of MrBeast videos pull in big creators: 32 of 269 sampled videos are about him and hold 28% of the 100k+ commenters, 72% of those on 7 videos. Without MrBeast videos and YouTube's own uploads, the lanes that clearly stay above average are Packaging & ideas (12.5%), Creator journey & lessons (6.4%) (average 4.4%); creator-economy essays are above average but not clearly (6.6%; YouTube's own uploads, mostly Creator Roundups, were 8 of its 13 sampled videos).
  • Your behind-the-scenes theme is about average: a typical build-in-public upload gets 1.01x its channel's usual (likely 0.95-1.19; niche 1.03x); its 10k+ commenter share is 5.8%, and 3.9% without the MrBeast behind-the-scenes videos (average without MrBeast and YouTube's own videos 4.4%). The business topic shows no lift (0.91x, 0.80-1.04).
  • Packaging draws the most established creators but sits clearly below the niche's usual: a typical packaging upload gets 0.70x (0.53-0.87). Teach it inside stories.
  • The AI anger is at AI slop: 120 of 140 negative-AI phrases in the comments are "AI slop", 61% of them on 3 videos. AI tools and AI debate draw few established creators.
  • No title move clearly helps (niche-titled uploads of the last ~11 months, per channel). AI in the title: 0.96x vs a niche usual of 1.03x; inside the same channel 0.88x (0.79-0.98) counting every channel with both kinds, 1.04x (0.90-1.14) when each side needs 2+ uploads: no gain, possibly a small loss. MrBeast 1.16x (0.97-1.52).
  • Newcomers get through: 21 channels based in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland or New Zealand and created since 2024 have a 100k+ long-form in strategy, creator-economy, journey or behind-the-scenes lanes. Two of the best-known strategist channels are quiet: Film Booth (last long-form 2024-04-17), Paddy Galloway (last long-form 2022-08-06).
  • Reference channels you named (first 100 commenters of 3 videos each, share running 100k+ channels): Colin and Samir 4.4% (13 people); Jon Youshaei 3.7% (11 people); The Futur (Chris Do) 1.4% (4 people); Dan Koe 0.3% (1 people). Differences of a few people are noise.

The niche map: 23 lanes

30k titles were read and sorted into 24 lanes by labeling agents (non-niche titles dropped). 'Typical upload' = each channel's median for the lane, then the median across channels (range = where it likely lands), over niche-titled long-forms among each creator channel's latest 50 uploads, 2 weeks to about 11 months old (14k long-forms from 1.7k channels; dates on channel pages are YouTube's relative '3 months ago' text, so ages are approximate). 91% of rows were sorted into lanes by a model trained on the agent labels (cross-checked accuracy 0.74). Niche usual: 1.03x. 'Commenters 10k+' = share of the first 100 commenters per sampled video (5-14 videos per lane) running a 10,000+ subscriber channel; niche 5.3%.

Where your audience is vs what holds up

Right = more commenters who run a 10k+ subscriber channel. Up = a typical upload in the lane beats its own channel's usual views (flops included). Dashed lines = medians across lanes. Top right is where you want to be.

Where the creators with real channels comment

For every sampled video, the first 100 comments in YouTube's relevance order were taken with each commenter's channel id, and every commenter channel was looked up (48k channels). Relevance order lifts bigger channels (on these videos the first 100 commenters hold more 10k+ channels than the next 100), so every row uses the same depth. This measures commenters, not viewers; compare rows, do not read one as "x% of the audience are creators". Business owners without a channel cannot show up here. Hidden subscriber counts are left out.

MrBeast effect: 32 of 269 sampled lane videos are about MrBeast; they hold 12% of checked commenters but 21% of the 10k+ and 28% of the 100k+ ones, 72% of those on 7 videos (16 of the 32 are at or below the niche rate). YouTube's own uploads (Creator Roundups and similar, 13 videos) also draw many creators. Lanes that clearly stay above average without MrBeast videos and YouTube's own uploads: Packaging & ideas, Creator journey & lessons. The "without" columns exclude both.

Your bets, tested

Every niche-titled long-form posted about 2 weeks to 11 months ago by the 10k channels the labels put in the niche, each compared with its own channel's usual views. "Per channel" = the median of each channel's median (range = where it likely lands), so one prolific channel cannot carry a row. Title patterns were checked on sample titles; the new-channel and behind-the-scenes patterns still catch some advice and vlog titles and have too few uploads to call. AI in the title inside the same channel: 0.88x (0.79-0.98) across all 546 channels with both kinds; 1.04x (0.90-1.14) across the 295 with 2+ of each. The answer depends on the filter: no gain, possibly a small loss.

The best MrBeast-titled uploads are critical takes:

Build in public (your theme, agent-labeled lane): typical upload 1.01x its channel's usual (likely 0.95-1.19; niche 1.03x), 174 channels; 5.8% of commenters run 10k+ channels and 4.0% run 100k+ (niche 5.3% and 2.9%), but 5 of its 11 sampled videos are MrBeast behind-the-scenes; without them 3.9% and 2.0% (average without MrBeast and YouTube-official videos 4.4% and 2.3%). About average. Inference, not measured: inside access to a very big operation is what drew the big creators.

Winner vs loser pairs (same topic, read by an agent from titles and thumbnails)

topic: A named consumer tool pairing (Claude + Canva) with a counted, timed result beat a 'Claude Code autopilot across 9 platforms' pitch published a day earlier.

topic: At equal channel size, 'make this concrete thing with Claude' beat 'Claude cracked the algorithm', despite the loser having the louder thumbnail.

topic: Claude as a helper inside a creator's existing editor plus an income badge beat 'Claude made the entire video', at the same channel size and in the same fortnight.

topic: A list of concrete businesses someone can start beats a guru-idea experiment at the same channel size.

topic: Analysis of famous brands with a curiosity hook beat a generic start-your-brand how-to on a larger channel.

packaging: Same topic and same proof-number style; 'FULL COURSE, start to finish' beat 'here are the niches' even from a channel 27x smaller.

packaging: On the same channel, a visible 100 to 10M gaming-niche transformation beat a generic 'why you are not growing' video with a borrowed-tweet thumbnail.

packaging: Same promise (algorithm help for creators), but the winner proves it with a before/after chart and a 2-minute fix while the loser shows a face and a question.

topic: Viewers took 'turn this setting on' over 'signs you will blow up', and the same signs premise also lost on a second channel.

packaging: Low-confidence call: with the premise identical, the winner's addressed-to-small-creators, 'they hid it' framing and the 127-views proof object are the visible differences.

content: A short recurring feature digest with named features beat a longer trends talk on a bigger sister channel, despite a thumbnail that says nothing.

topic: Same channel, same length, similar loud thumbnails: the platform-news peg with a numbered promise beat the evergreen 'dark reality' opinion.

packaging: Same channel, same runtime, near-identical thumbnail template: the only visible differences are a guest-and-topic title versus a 'Best of' series-label title, and a five-month later upload, so low confidence that the title is the cause.

topic: On the same small channel, the interview built around two named mega-creators and a money outcome beat the one about an unnamed 'most Sued Creator'.

channel: Same guest, but the 0.54 comes from a giant channel's own median, and the loser still out-viewed the winner in raw numbers; the winner's real edge is a short, personal, one-face package.

What winners share

  • Named mainstream tool plus a concrete output or count shown in the thumbnail text: ngXvG87RZOA ('32 Designs. 10 Minutes.'), QeV04PFPNck ('Auto Carousels'), iz2nbCqcFUg ('AI VIDEO MAKER'), KUiyOKHXoaE ('EDIT 3D MODELS WITH AI'), gBV5FT40N_M.
  • Claude plus an app non-technical creators already use is a repeat winner: ngXvG87RZOA and gBV5FT40N_M (both Claude + Canva), QeV04PFPNck (Claude + Instagram), WODnqHPLR38 (Claude Code + CapCut).
  • Free, unlimited or bulk promise with the finished output visible (cartoon characters, long videos): 1AuYf3inSBs, ylezKJG7rb8, BnquzIGVuKc, iz2nbCqcFUg.
  • Small channels win: 13 of 15 winners have under 100,000 subs (edG3nhx3U0k, seRObltJk_U, mKyaNr3jK-E, z5W90KLtxkA, EyXNKb2HsfM, OxWgqZFZV-g, d6P7GfWVxzQ); the channel-relative ratio rewards breakouts.
  • The title or thumbnail names a defined viewer: 50+ (seRObltJk_U), introverts (JssvncqBUUY), 73-year-old (z5W90KLtxkA), 2,500 subscribers (d6P7GfWVxzQ), no experience (1Djn2sHt-Fc).
  • Small, specific numbers on the thumbnail: $4,200/week (seRObltJk_U), $72,802.00 net revenue (JssvncqBUUY), $5k per month (1Djn2sHt-Fc), $1000/MONTH (4tKj8IjllDE), Total Sales 28,934 (OxWgqZFZV-g), Estimated revenue $23,973.91 (EyXNKb2HsfM).
  • A number or before/after outcome shown in the thumbnail: wZonRKXyvzI (132,738 views before/after), KzkQFkfPOkE (87 to 290K), nfPAqlr8G3Y (17K to 239K), Mx0z11ruMjI (100 to 10M), 3w8GKRem4Xg (94,609,000 vs 80,130,000), iCjjf1tnSJg (598.8K views and $2,636.99 on screen), hLN3kQBSZ84 ('1K subscribers in 24 hours'); 7 of 15 winners.
  • One named lever, setting or action instead of a general idea: nfPAqlr8G3Y, rk_VhuBhLyI, KzkQFkfPOkE (upload and Studio settings), wZonRKXyvzI (2-minute algorithm fix), 0Qlfcx2mEKA (wrong-audience fix). Time-boxed promises also recur: wZonRKXyvzI (2-Minute), EEV3E2U0keQ ('IN 10 MINS'), iemuHxed0nY ('10 minutes/day').
  • Small and mid channels dominate winners: 12 of 15 are under 150000 subs (median 76100), vs a loser median of 1074000. Caveat: ratio is against each channel's own median, so small channels spike more easily, and 0Qlfcx2mEKA has only 26569 views.
  • Small-creator-addressed concealment: 'hid it / didn't tell small creators / last to know' titles plus a 127-views phone mock-up, all from one channel (SL8Aa6kCl5c 51.67x, 2YQyKHTMgHw 25.98x, 3mgjxl9srt8 24.4x); Z9j8p1135KM (23.09x) also addresses 'Small Channels' with a 'New Rules' thumbnail.
  • Official platform digest series with named features in the title and a template thumbnail: YouTube Creators Roundup, g0dIRjd53K4 41.15x, IaszQaGHi5w 34.62x, C3kH-LqoFns 32.52x, elMyhNdIwrE 24.73x, all 182s to 430s; contrast Creator Insider's feature-list title IPLXzwleUyY at 0.37.
  • News peg plus number or named source: 4coWVqY-et0 ('11 ... from CEO Neal Mohan'), 7uPYUxroDBY (tweet card from @YouTube), uqzc7sCOMRo (subscriber bar-chart race with MrBeast 419,000,000 and T-Series 300,000,000).
  • Small and mid channels dominate winners: 13 of 15 winners have 200000 subs or fewer (e.g. b3qpE0Gl504, SbHDPJNYHek, kBhfcFCQjWY, 0NkvCUUWSkQ, Rkjn_BNE-20), against 2 of 29 losers; only OkxFSf0olgA (TIME, 1600000) and xIGJZ4ydEgQ (4630000) are bigger. Part of this is the ratio's denominator, since big channels have high medians.
  • First-person solo creators with a concrete personal result or identity framework: K-1RDjTV3Kg, OHYl6e8CdBE, 5gtSJWD0BAQ, 0NkvCUUWSkQ, Appgq4OY_go, Rkjn_BNE-20, V5Rppv4RnRo (lanes jl, cp and ps hold 10 of the 15 winners).
  • 'Just start' and consume-versus-create is a repeating hook: 'JUST START' text on the Rkjn_BNE-20 and OHYl6e8CdBE thumbnails, consume-versus-create premise in Rkjn_BNE-20, 7kqDCYkF_X0 and Appgq4OY_go.

What losers get wrong

  • Thumbnails with only tool icons or a generic label and no stated outcome: 4Zaoo0YbYaw and MwGbZkYYHVw (no text at all), uQulSf5Mci0 ('I TESTED THEM ALL'), zOdinpByxRM ('AI TOOLS'), -lSDKrX01xA ('YOU'RE USING AI WRONG').
  • Roundups and superlatives instead of one named job: uQulSf5Mci0, zOdinpByxRM, -lSDKrX01xA, oF5I9jZdMxc, cWyoGWPBI8A, AhlNs8JQ3Bo, dqVZRLC-EdU.
  • Crowded sub-topic with no winners in this input: AI YouTube thumbnails, five losers all under 0.55 (LkW6cunDvLU, 1-hR4YHg9kY, FOdjF2hlnVU, j5CKUUpRZV8, AhlNs8JQ3Bo).
  • Generic start-your-brand how-tos from a large channel: Patrick Dang's SdHg-vPDQic, jSZHKATGTCM, kiVTc92Ez0k, kT5i_CLVZ3A all sit at 0.13 to 0.3.
  • Brand-deal how-to explainers: the five YouTube Creators 'Brand Deal Desk' episodes (zmAyVXtPXT8, vkqvm4aRq_c, yoAcphhJRYU, kVwf__CuHgc, XR14Sk9h8zY), plus h6pc5ZnTXFY and 338KifCSjLA. Series title cards and panel shots carry no number or hook.
  • Faceless-AI automation and niche-list videos from 298k to 1.48M-sub channels: 3zCYO8e0Z9w, GxcFXsqYnIQ, jUTOst0tb7Q, Vr1TDktuEbE, PhiuryIJ584, S3kdxriOESk (all 0.43 to 0.55; soft losers, 45,966 to 134,335 views).
  • Theory topics on storytelling, hooks, retention and idea lists with no proof: the 7 storytelling-lane losers (n_hKXhCYQrw, ooWMvH3341k, 05XuPA4Q_SE, PvWWKx1KeNE, TQ7kuoNcni0, cX8c3R2LFd4, rZgrxGtw-tQ) and the 3 idea-lane losers (fACvktVGbL8, i7OekeRn1_k, RTWLchlSong); the winner set has none in either lane.
  • Template thumbnails with no measured result: icon-grid tactic lists (fACvktVGbL8, ooWMvH3341k) and the same 3D red YouTube logo layout across six DecodingYT videos (PvWWKx1KeNE, TQ7kuoNcni0, RTWLchlSong, HPxtkYEJ5rY, WA8qcwZswZU, Pd-1Xi8B-l8), all at ratios 0.35 to 0.53.
  • Screen-capture or unedited-looking thumbnails and vague promises: abQV4P2B2b8 (tool screenshot with a webcam inset), n-W8qgYXD9M (blurred analytics screenshot), plus vague 'this sign' or question framings in QYqw2tAbar4, IHjow8q_dmo, HPxtkYEJ5rY, SLtOuBrg_q4.
  • Vague doom with no claim, number or culprit: 84wx9X-AslM ('Changed Forever'), u0B153ol6FY ('YOUTUBE IS CHANGING'), MGTKaALdHzc (black screen, 'Youtube.'), rJHz3x9ciqE ('SHARE THIS.'), MlgD4HtjvHU ('THE END').
  • Thumbnail is a tweet or screenshot that must be read at small size: pHvos-1T9mw, CmUkWSEgTsY, wqHvj2PLTQk; these also react to a single news event (pHvos-1T9mw 0.51, CmUkWSEgTsY 0.37, wqHvj2PLTQk 0.52).
  • Thumbnail and title promise different things, or a blurred/hidden payoff: IPLXzwleUyY (title lists features, thumbnail says 'Data & Brand Deals'), EtZdUxh426A (blurred '#1').
  • Generic or program-label titles that lead with the series instead of the promise: zDrM2xyRc8c ('Best of Frontier CMO'), jdlBs5NrxpE ('YouTube for Artists Masterclass'), Aa7tNxxZuu0 ('How to Be a Better Human | TED'), eACPFk8m594 ('The Gray Area'), HpreATdUSZA ('4 Steps to Unlock...').
  • Interviews with no named payoff for the viewer: 17 of 29 losers are lane iv, e.g. PKgV1f6qdgc, acQG_wjUuyw (thumbnail is two men seated on stage with no text), 0n9oIVc8jTM, Wl7AOlEUg34 (unnamed 'most Sued Creator').
  • Thumbnails with no claim text or only a generic benefit: acQG_wjUuyw, qk0u30_nZKg (a painting, no text), HpreATdUSZA ('Unlock Your Hidden Creativity'), SssFSSllGR4 ('How to DO IT ALL').

Who is watching

YouTube does not show viewer ages or jobs for other people's channels. Segments below come from comment mining (verbatim quotes), the commenter-channel check above, and the web research note. Ages are reads, labeled as such.

Working creators and channel operators

Size: Small by comment count, densest in creator commenters. About a dozen of 1,710 growth comments and 15-20 of ~2,200 craft comments show operator signals, but packaging (13.3%), creator stories (8.6%) and strategy breakdowns (7.6%) lead every lane for commenters running 10k+ channels (all lanes 5.0%).
Age: Read from comments: about 25-55. Strategy and behind-the-scenes threads carry nostalgia math, job titles and team talk; the teen voices sit on how-to videos instead.
Watches: Packaging & ideas, Strategy breakdowns, Creator business & media company
Cares about: Views collapsing despite strong metrics, packaging that stays honest, team pressure and burnout, AI copycats.
Wants: Real numbers, inner workings (team, schedule, costs), worked examples, packaging that keeps its promise, a big name admitting he might be wrong.
Evidence: growth.json and strategy_craft.json find operators rare but high-like, opening with a credential or a number; they judge ops, cost and team, not tips.
For you: SERVE, core. Make each video its own case study: his numbers, team, costs and failed tests, packaged as legitbait. Open with the 18M credential to answer 'why aren't you bigger'. Judge success by who comments, not how many.

Business owners, agency owners and marketers

Size: Small and under-measured. About 35 of 1,970 business comments mention clients, an agency, their own business or freelancing; no marketer self-identifies in 2,115 industry comments. Their lanes score low on the 10k+ channel check (creator business 4.2%, one-person business 2.6%, content marketing 2.5%) because most do not run YouTube channels, so that metric undercounts them.
Age: Read from comments: about 28-55. Veteran designers and agency owners on The Futur and Sabri Suby, a 45-year-old IT manager on an AI business interview, 'I started a business last year. I have 10 employees'. An ad-listing estimate puts The Futur podcast at median 36 (UNCONFIRMED).
Watches: Content marketing for businesses, Creator business & media company, One-person business & personal brand, Interviews & podcasts
Cares about: Pricing, clients, getting customers, paid versus gifted deals, team tooling.
Wants: One quotable reframe they can repeat to clients, concrete method over case-study vibes, no lead-magnet bait.
Evidence: business.json: operators are a low-like minority asking the most specific questions (rates, tooling, landing pages). web_audience.md: Lia Haberman's newsletter reaches 55K+ social and creator marketers; ~20% of surveyed marketers fund B2B creator marketing (vendor survey).
For you: SERVE, the money layer. Frame the one-person media company in business terms: headcount, cost per video, margins, systems, what a brand gets. Never funnel-first. Measure them off YouTube (newsletter, inbound), since comments will not show them.

Ah finally someone talking about the absolute basic fundamentals of marketing. As an agency owner for years I've been preaching about pull strategy. Its funny how every business wants to be on social media when their customers are actively 521 likes · video

Size: Small. AI tools pool only 2.5% commenters with 10k+ channels; the 4-hour Claude Code course has 5 of 200. Only 32 of 1,710 growth comments mention AI.
Age: Read from comments: mostly adult freelancers, developers and team leads, with a teen tail ('I am 14 and I am paying for the pro sub').
Watches: AI tools for creators, Build in public & BTS, Interviews & podcasts
Cares about: Setup details (CLAUDE.md files, voice tools), real cost of the tools, whether demos hold up off-camera.
Wants: The actual files and prompts, the screen shown, AI doing visible work instead of hype.
Evidence: ai.json: no commenter states a 100k+ channel and asks how to add AI to a pipeline. people.json: praise when AI does visible work; 'u r not telling the amount of money' drew 1,655 likes.
For you: BORROW, carefully. Show the real stack and its monthly cost inside creator-business stories, and open-source files for loyalty, but never become a tool-tutorial channel: that pulls freelancers and side-hustlers, not 100k+ creators.

I'm confused on how to set up the claude.md files. Do you just go out and find someone elses? Also the files in general. Like how do you keep all the stuff organized. It seems like theres global files, project files, claude.md files, skill 12 likes · video

Human-craft loyalists (anti-slop)

Size: Largest by likes in the AI and industry groups. 'Dead internet theory has become dead internet reality' has 107,684 likes; zero unconditional pro-AI comments in 2,115 industry comments. The pooled AI-debate share is 2.1%, but 'AI Slop Is Destroying The Internet' has 16 of 200 known commenters with 10k+ channels (11 with 100k+), so working creators sit here.
Age: Read from comments: wide. Debate videos skew 25-65 (a 40-year-old, librarians, a 20-year designer); high-like industry commenters skew 16-30.
Watches: AI debate & experiments, Creator-economy & platform news, Packaging & ideas
Cares about: Trust, human-made work, undisclosed AI, AI-looking thumbnails, platforms pushing slop, real work flagged as AI.
Wants: A named human with receipts, disclosure, AI kept as a tool behind human judgment.
Evidence: ai.json: hostility targets AI as substitution, not as a craft tool. industry.json: a pro-AI creator is met with 'is he getting paid' (1,336 likes).
For you: EARN, do not provoke. They include his target peers. Keep face, voice and judgment his, disclose where AI sits, never pitch 'AI runs my channel', no AI-looking thumbnails. Lead with proof of quality, then show the pipeline.

Size: Largest by comment count. About 15% of 1,710 growth comments carry a small or new creator cue; about 125 of 315 comments under official YouTube Creators roundups are beginner thanks or monetization pleas. Beginner tips pool 6.9%, lifted by PewDiePie 'How To Get Started' (18 of 100); 'Change This One YouTube Setting Now!' has 5 of 100. Short-form pools 3.3%.
Age: Read from comments: teen to early 20s (board-exam students, 14-year-olds), plus a career-changer and retiree tail aged 44-84.
Watches: Beginner growth tips, Short-form & social growth, Storytelling & scripting
Cares about: First 1,000 subs, monetization thresholds, views after 48 hours, company.
Wants: Permission, a first step, solidarity threads, more tutorials.
Evidence: growth.json: the biggest threads are solidarity calls ('Small channels, don't give up', 10,108 likes), not questions.
For you: AVOID. No 'start a channel', first-1,000-subs, settings or monetization titles; they flood comments, teach the algorithm the wrong viewer, and cannot become the 100k+ audience.

Cares about: Any income fast, scams, blocked cash-outs.
Wants: Honest real-number debunks, copyable step-by-step, a host not selling a course.

Strategy breakdowns, storytelling, filmmaking, systems

This audience rewards proof over promise: the teacher's own video demonstrates the method, the real operation (team, schedule, costs) is shown, and one human story makes craft land; it punishes overpromising titles, filler before the point, no worked examples, visible retention-engineering and off-topic ads. A new face-to-camera channel for working creators should make each video its own case study, lead with a credential-level result before teaching (the standing objection is 'why aren't you bigger if you know the secrets', which 18M subs pre-empts), and keep AI invisible in the workflow while voice and story stay visibly human, since AI is mostly invoked here as an accusation of polish and formula. Caveat: the 100k+ operator signal is thin and sits on behind-the-scenes and analysis videos, not tutorials; almost no one asks for AI (one wants an AI hook extractor), the forward asks are creator tooling (thumbnail tests, outlier finders) and creators acting as studios.

Self-identified working creators are a thin slice of commenters, so a face-cam channel for 100k+ operators wins by showing real numbers, costs, team and failures, demonstrating AI doing visible work, and keeping taste visible, because a vocal minority blames optimization and retention editing for ruining YouTube.

This lane is a beginner and small-creator crowd: its biggest threads are 'small creators gather here' and Hinglish sub-count thanks, so tips-style education attracts people who cannot be the 100k+ audience. The few working creators and the biggest non-beginner comments reward real numbers and process, packaging that keeps its promise, a consistent recognizable human brand, and a huge name saying he may be wrong. Only 32 of 1,710 comments mention AI, 19 of them under the Forgotten Weapons test. The negative side is loud (the 45 comments packed for one AI-thumbnail experiment total about 62K likes, almost all preferring the old look) and it objects to AI-looking PUBLIC packaging, which breaks brand recognition and signals slop, not to AI as a tool. The positive side is sparse and private: Studio's AI audit, ChatGPT recommending a video, a request to cover Claude for short-form. Spam promoting AI image tools was excluded.

Creativity and creator psychology

This audience rewards honesty about the cost of making things plus one usable idea delivered plainly: the adult, high-engagement videos (Design Theory, Josh Czuba, Daniel Barada, Perry Daniels) are essays or unedited talking-head monologues where viewers confess their own stories at length, while the entertainers win on jokes and animation, not advice. A new face-cam creator for advanced creators should name the unspoken pain (success trap, fear replacing curiosity, advice-consumption guilt), hand over one named rule or free system, show visible craft or a result, and never read as a pitch, since the sharpest negative reaction in the data is to sellers of secrets. Treat AI as a visible sidekick to a human vision, because the loudest AI reaction is relief at human-made work.

Only about 15 comments across 22 videos mention AI. The positive ones all come from one musician (Dandy John) whose AI character jokes beside his songwriting; they are near-identical and low-like, probably templated, so low trust. The real signal is protective: polished human work gets suspected of being AI, AI slop is the foil that makes craft precious, and AI art is cited as artist pressure. AI is accepted only as a visible, funny sidekick to a human vision.

AI tools and AI debate

This audience rewards a named, visibly human personality with stakes, honest framing and receipts, and punishes substitution of the creator or undisclosed AI; free calm deep teaching and open-source builds earn loyalty, hyped make-money pitches earn side-eye. A face-cam creator selling an AI-leveraged one-person company should keep face, voice and judgment unmistakably his, disclose where AI sits in the pipeline, show real builds and numbers, and frame AI as what frees human craft: the anti-slop signal is the largest and loudest here, so the 'I love AI' stance will draw fire from the 100k+ creators he targets unless proof of quality comes first.

The hostility targets AI as substitution or fog (slop, fake people, undisclosed content, platform-pushed feeds, a creator's face and voice swapped out), not AI as a craft tool: the same crowd cheers when a named human uses AI as the prop or the experiment (Sambucha, yikes) and reads a build-and-open-source demo as generosity (God's Eye View). Backlash triggers seen here: a creator announcing a stand-in for himself (n3on), undisclosed or hype-first AI promotion, AI accusations aimed at honest work, any hint a platform or brand is pushing it. Caveat: no video here is a big creator openly running his company on AI, so 'AI used BY a real creator' is inferred from adjacent cases (Neon, Kwebbelkop, tutorials), not observed.

Faceless, automation and make-money-online

This lane rewards trust and anti-scam realism: honest numbers, a humble named host, and zero course-selling beat any income claim, while ad-disguised or AI-persona content gets shredded. The audience is young, broke and burned, treats 'how to make money' videos as the real business model, and will not pay or follow a pro-operator thesis, so a new face-cam creator should borrow the honesty format (real P&L, failures included, no course) and avoid income-promise titles, beginner promises and AI-as-magic framing.

Money in this niche

  • Sponsors, not ads, pay here. Colin and Samir took about 95% of show revenue from sponsorship and earned about $1.00 per 1,000 views from AdSense (Feb 2022, Nathan Barry interview).
  • Measured RPM: Business and Finance median about $2.01 per 1,000 views, but on fewer than 10 channels (directional); Education and Science $10.22 (AIR, 300 channels, May 2025 to May 2026).
  • Paid communities: The Futur Pro, 900+ members at $449 a quarter, reported $1M+ a year (case study about 2023, Outseta case study, c. 2023).
  • Cohort courses: Colin and Samir's Creator Startup, $1,797 (Tubefilter, Jan 2024); Ali Abdaal's Part-Time YouTuber Academy from $1,495 (Publish Press).
  • The risk is real: Ali Abdaal's course demand fell in 2022; Creator Science revenue fell 8% in 2025, digital products -74%, two live events lost money (Jay Clouse year in review).
  • Strategists as a business: Paddy Galloway's channel works as a lead engine for consulting, a 20,000+ creator newsletter and an accelerator (OutlierKit, Jul 2026; fees UNCONFIRMED).
  • Sponsor rates for business and marketing audiences are quoted at $25-40 CPM, but only by a vendor (UNCONFIRMED, 1of10).

Full notes: creator breakouts and money, who watches.

Rules of the road

  • AI disclosure (YouTube Help): "We require creators to disclose AI-generated or altered content that seems realistic." No disclosure needed for "Production assistance, like using generative AI tools to create or improve a video outline, script, thumbnail, title, or infographic", "Caption creation", "Idea generation", or "Cloning one's own voice to create voice overs or dubs". "Disclosing AI content alone won't limit a video's audience or impact its eligibility to earn money."
  • Auto labels since May 2026: "Starting in May 2026, we're rolling out new internal signals to help identify AI-generated content" (YouTube blog, May 27 2026).
  • Inauthentic content (renamed from "repetitious content" July 15 2025, YouTube Help): not monetizable: "AI-generated content made with generic or unoriginal templates giving the impression of mass production without adding the creator's original, authentic insights or perspective". Allowed: "using AI to edit your video scripts or generate a unique background visual for your content". Safe reading (not stated): a real host showing his own AI workflow is the allowed case.
  • Partner Program bar doubles for new channels on Feb 1 2027: "8,000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days, or 20M qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days, in addition to still needing 1k subscribers. If you are already in YPP, your status is not impacted." (YouTube Help). Safe reading (not stated): a channel accepted before Feb 1 2027 is "already in YPP". Today it is 1,000 subs plus 4,000 hours or 10M Shorts views (YouTube Help).
  • YouTube's stated line on AI (Neal Mohan, Jan 21 2026): "AI will remain a tool for expression, not a replacement." (YouTube blog)

Method and caveats

  • Discovery: 170 searches x 4 sort orders (yt-dlp, free), 23 API searches by year (2014-2026), 4 TubeLab outlier pulls, 3 Google Trends sets. Pulled 2026-10-27.
  • Labels: 30k titles read by labeling agents into 24 lanes defined by a taxonomy agent from a 700-title sample; non-niche titles dropped.
  • Channel baselines: latest 50 long-forms of 6.2k channels read from their channel pages (free). Dates there are YouTube's relative text ("3 months ago") and views are rounded to 3 digits ("112K"); "1 year ago" covers 12-23 months, so typical-upload and title tests stop at about 11 months (330 days). Shorts via the API with exact dates. Livestream replays sit on a separate tab and are excluded.
  • Typical upload: per-channel medians with a bootstrap range over channels; only channels the agent labels confirm as creator-niche channels; 91% of rows sorted into lanes by a model (cross-checked accuracy 0.74). Search-found videos are winners and are agent-labeled, so a pooled median per lane is pulled up by them; per-channel medians limit that.
  • Survivor bias: baselines only cover channels whose best video passed 100k views, so a brand-new channel faces worse odds than these numbers show.
  • Search medians flatter every lane (search returns winners): "what does worst" and "typical" come only from the channel upload lists.
  • Commenter check: the first 100 comments (relevance order) on 5-14 videos per lane and 3 per reference channel; 48k commenter channels looked up. Commenters are not viewers; relevance order lifts bigger commenters, so every row uses the same depth; lanes where one video carries 30%+ of the 10k+ commenters are listed. Video owners' own comments are never quoted as viewers.
  • Phrase signals are regex counts and can echo a video's title (the "AI slop" case); read them with the mined quotes.
  • Reference channels: latest ~200 long-forms each with exact stats; members-only uploads (0 public views) dropped; Creator Science re-pulled after the first handle pointed at an old personal channel.
  • What the data cannot say: viewer ages and jobs (YouTube does not publish them for other channels), revenue, and whether a format caused a result.
